2017 Year In Review

A new year is upon us, bringing refreshed optimism and new resolutions for many looking to the 12 months ahead. I’ve spent the holiday break reflecting on our past year and wanted to take a moment to share with you the tremendous confidence I have for our company and what we can achieve in 2018.

More than any other, 2017 was a year of transformation for Hortonworks. We launched compelling new products, cemented partnerships with industry leaders and continued to deliver strong business growth for our customers and investors. Most importantly, we continued to evolve and innovate. With our next phase of growth underway, what I like to call Hortonworks 3.0, I see tremendous success ahead for our company, our partners and our customers.

New Ofertas

In terms of our product portfolio, Hortonworks maintained a steady cadence in bringing new offerings to market throughout 2017. This past April, we introduced Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) version 2.6, which improved our customers’ access to data-at-rest and significantly accelerated their ability to make decisions and pursue data-driven innovation.

We followed HDP 2.6 with an update to our streaming data analytics offering in Hortonworks Data Flow 3.0 (HDF). Core to HDF 3.0 is an improved customer experience via our new Streaming Analytics Manager (SAM). With a simple drag-and-drop interface, SAM makes it easy for our customers to design, develop, test, deploy and maintain streaming applications on HDF – and without having to write a single line of code.

And, of course, in September, we tied together our data-at-rest and data-in-motion offerings with Hortonworks Dataplane Service (DPS). Through DPS, we now have an enterprise-viable global data management platform that can capture data-at-rest and data-in-motion – whether on-prem, in the cloud or both – while consistently and reliably securing, governing and managing those data assets.

As Forrester noted shortly after we introduced DPS, connected data offerings like these are the future of the industry. Enterprise customers need the ability to manage data of every type and application in a familiar and consistent manner, wherever data may be housed. With DPS, we’re providing an intuitive experience for managing data, which enables enterprises to easily focus on getting the most value from data in the quickest way possible.

DPS represents a natural and important evolution of our business, which is why we refer to its introduction as Hortonworks 3.0. This is also where the industry is headed.  Customers across the spectrum – from retail to banking to telecom – have been asking for these types of capabilities to advance their businesses. Hortonworks is proud that we were recognized as the first in our industry to introduce such a service that truly connects data platforms on multiple tiers, and on a global scale.

Deepening Relationships

Our peers, customers and competitors all noticed our leadership with DPS. Along with this recognition, the overall appreciation for our brand and the value we provide our customers grew as well. Whether it was through our successful DataWorks Summits in Munich, San Jose and Sydney, or our acknowledgement by industry analysts and media as a leader in our space, we continue to enjoy an enhanced reputation.

As the industry’s understanding of our capabilities and expertise grows, so has partnership interest among well-established industry leaders. At the San Jose DataWorks Summit in June, we jointly announced with IBM an expanded partnership designed to help businesses accelerate data-driven decision-making. The combination of Hortonworks Data Platform with IBM Data Science Experience and IBM Big SQL is leading to new integrated solutions designed to improve analysis and management of customers’ ever-growing data volumes.

And in September, we jointly announced with NEC an expanded partnership to deliver a single distributed processing platform for big data. As NEC said at the time, our partnership will allow NEC to provide organizations “the best Hadoop platform for data management and processing.” In addition, as a platinum reseller for Hortonworks, NEC further expands our global footprint, particularly in the important Asia marketplace.

None of this happens without the dedication, inspiration and hard work of Hortonworks team members, our partners and our customers. I’m grateful for the incredible year we’ve just experienced. As we continue on this journey through Hortonworks 3.0 and beyond, I know we are extremely well positioned to build on our momentum and, together, continue an upward trajectory in 2018.
